February TarotScopes
By Lalia Wilson
February is President’s Day in the U.S., and Valentine’s Day around the world. While Valentine’s Day is the supposed holiday of LOVE, there were several St. Valentines and none were proponents of romance. The Sun transits Aquarius, the least romantic of signs (or maybe tied with Capricorn) for most of February, another reason to be leery of Valentine’s Day. Mercury goes retrograde right after Valentine’s Day, 2/16- 3/9. This is a time of misunderstandings in general, and if you are expecting romance, that is an area of lots of potential for misunderstandings. Astrologically, 2020 is a big year of change and potential movement towards a higher path for us as individuals and as societies. Change is challenging, especially for those who are sitting on top of Fortune’s Wheel. Venus, the planet of love is retrograde in May and June. Mars, the planet of sex (and war) is retrograde from September into November. So in addition to societal changes, expect some rocks in the path of romance as well this year. The upside? This is the culmination of many forces coming together to create change. As the year progresses we will increasingly find life easier and lighter.
All cards were randomized before these drawings with four decks being used. In previous columns there have always been repeated cards. For the first time there are none. So the global message is that everyone is going to be doing his own thing.
The Fire signs are depicted by The 78 Tarot Elemental (2019) created by eighty-one artists, written by Trish Sullivan, published by Kayti Welch, and available at 78tarot.cards. The Earth signs are shown by the 78 Tarot Mythical (2018) created by eighty-one artists, written by Trish Sullivan, published by Kayti Welch and available at 78tarot.cards. (Both decks are reviewed in this issue of Tarot Reflections.) The Air signs are represented using the Winter Waite Tarot (2018) created by James Battersby and Christine Agular and available at www.tarotcollectibles.com. Water Signs are shown by the Cat Tarot (2019), created by artist Megan Lynn Koit and writer Julie Smillie, and published by Chronicle Books. (This deck is reviewed elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections.)
I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, to emphasize a particular season or sign, and because some are my favorites.
Aries:
The Sun and the Ten of Cups:
Dear Aries, you seem to be at the center of everything this month. You may have been traveling during the first half of the month, but now it is back to reality. Your dreams and your unconscious are busy creating new adventures, but they are not yet in manifestation. Your children, creative life, love affairs, whatever, are put aside. Your career requires all your focus.
Taurus:
Justice and the Queen of Wands:
Dear Taurus, your Aries friends, and an Aries therapist can be helpful to you this month. They will help you clarify what has been on the edge of your conscious awareness. It is out of your grasp, but another can help you see it. Take any needed health precautions. Your world, usually serene and placid, will be undergoing massive changes this year and for several years to come. Cultivate flexibility! (Also, follow the letter of the law.)
Gemini:
The High Priestess and the Six of Cups:
Dear Gemini, both cards for this month indicate reflection and inner focus. To the extent that you can harmonize yourself with your inner world, you may win big in your career and public life. The High Priestess is about listening with an open mind, not taking action without consulting others. Enough said. Important career or public reputation changes are in progress and make everything unstable from mid-February until mid-March.
Cancer:
Judgment and the Page of Swords:
Dear Cancer, Judgment always suggests that you will reap what you have sown. Here, it is a caution to continue to plant seeds of civility, fairness, and good will to all. In particular, significant others are likely karmic reflectors to you this month. Treat important people in your life with care, as you will receive what you have dished out. Perhaps some serious meditation on the Judgment card is in order.
Leo:
The Hanged Man and the Three of Fire/Wands:
Dear Leo, you have a lot of different projects in the works. At least one involves foreigners and foreign travel. Yet patience is called for at this time, especially at the end of the month with Mercury retrograde. If a deal or shipment hasn’t happened by the 16th, it may be March 10th before you get what you’re expecting. Any children’s health issues that come up are serious and should be immediately acted upon.
Virgo:
The Wheel of Fortune and the Five of Wands:
Dear Virgo, expect changes this month especially regarding children and creative projects. It will be an active month with lots of responsibilities. Your life partner and anyone crucial to your current projects are likely to change their minds and then change them again. Don’t expect that to settle out until mid-March (ouch)
.
Libra:
The World and the Two of Pentacles:
Dear Libra, this month is a time of heavy responsibilities for a family business, your residence, and any construction or repair work you do. There will be plenty of work. If you are open to forming a business that has to do with construction, particularly for homes, this time period is good for most of the year, excepting Mercury retrograde times like 2/16 to 3/9. If you have some medical problems starting, Mercury’s retrograde will interfere with a correct diagnosis and your symptoms may disappear (only to return after March 9). The exception is if this is a reoccurrence of an earlier ailment, which you will now be able to diagnose and treat.
Scorpio:
The Tower and the Two of Cups:
Dear Scorpio, the first half of the month has you busy with personal finances. You may be doing sports betting or other gambling. Take a break while Mercury is retrograde or expect to lose your winnings. The Tower can be big loses. Carefully check to see where you are exposed financially and in other ways. Be conservative this month in finances. OTOH, your love and creative life looks very good. Maybe you should take a break to explore a budding relationship?
Sagittarius:
The Emperor and the Eight of Air/Swords:
Dear Sagittarius, you are full of energy to get things done, especially for the first half of the month. Your neighbors, cousins and siblings are pulling you into many social events. You are not shy, and being out and about will bring good times and love for those seeking a relationship. For the time being, you are your own worst enemy. Listen to some more positive input!
Capricorn:
Death and the Page of Pentacles:
Dear Capricorn, you have some female friends who are strong supporters. This month, and this two-three year time period, is one of great change for you. A relationship with a junior associate or student will lighten your heart and empower the younger person for success. Any neighborhood/sibling/cousin problems that arise the second half of the month will dissolve in mid-March.
Aquarius:
The Moon and the Eight of Wands:
Dear Aquarius, you are feeling good and on top of things. Any adjustments to your personal finances should be avoided during the mid-February to mid-March period. That new bank account or other financial deal is not as good as it appears. Take it slow and delay acting until after March 9. Travel is highlighted. You are also unusually moody and unusually influenced by others’ psychic states. You are feeling this on an unconscious level, and may not be consciously aware of what is going on. Heed your intuition!
Pisces:
The Star and the King of Wands:
Dear Pisces, look at Aquarius’s reading. You are also absorbing psychic influences from others and may not be aware of it. You also are in a precarious financial position during this Mercury retrograde; a situation that counsels prudence and care in any financial changes. The end goal is greater financial power, but your obstacles are undue outside influences, and hasty decisions. Sleep on it.
You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you. If you get bored seeing my favorites, I’m open to suggestions and gifts.
