March 2020 TarotScopes
By Lalia Wilson
March is upon us. In the U.S., we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, a day to honor our Irish heritage, a cultural heritage (if not a biological one) for many. Irish symbols of the Shamrock, the color green, usually Kelly Green, and Irish music and food are enjoyed. Some places even dye beer green in celebration and the City of Chicago dyes their river green for the day. A good time is had by all. St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, but the preceding weekend, on March 14th, there will be a St. Patrick's Day Clover Cruise to witness the dyeing of the Chicago River, participants will wear their best green attire and have a good time as they eat, drink and are merry. These cruises include live bagpipers, Irish themed drinks, and corned beef sandwiches. Now most of us will not be going to Chicago for this internationally known celebration, but anyone can celebrate in their own location. Or at one of these other world locations: https://www.fodors.com/news/events/worlds-biggest-st-patricks-day-celebrations. One reason for celebration will be that Mercury is moving forward again effective March 9th at almost midnight Eastern Time.
All cards were randomized before these drawings with four decks being used. Only one card is repeated, The High Priestess. Her presence suggests that we listen within this month, that we take the time to find our own truth before taking action.
The Fire signs are depicted by The Baseball Tarot (1999) created by Mark Lerner and Laura Philips; it is available at Amazon and other online retailers. (The Baseball Tarot is reviewed in this issue of Tarot Reflections.) The Earth signs are shown by the Ancestral Path Tarot (1997) created by Julie Cuccia-Watts and published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. The Air signs are represented using the Afro-Brazilian Tarot (2014-2017) created by Alice Santana, artwork by Giuseppe Palumbo, and published by Lo Scarabeo. Water Signs are shown by the HooDoo Tarot (2020), created by Tayannah Lee McQuillar, artwork by Katelan V. Foisy, and published by Destiny Books a division of Inner Traditions Bear Company. (This deck is reviewed elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections.)
I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, to emphasize a particular season or sign, and because some are my favorites.
Aries:
Reflection/The Hermit and the Six of Balls/Swords:
Dear Aries, while you have a lot going on at work, and in the public eye, most of your attention is directed at a friend who has been having a bad time. From mid-February into the first third of March Mercury has been retrograde and impacting your sectors of secrets and friends. While no one wants their whole life to be public, we lessen the problems when we avoid problematic behavior. I hope someone does not have you blackmailed.
Taurus:
The Fool and the Two of Swords:
Dear Taurus, you have been changing. Yes, you have! People are starting to notice. A decision that you made in February is turning out to be not so wise. You will get a second chance this month. Wait to take action until after March 9. In the meantime, I hope you are not shy, because eyes will be on you.
Gemini:
The Moon and the Ace of Pentacles:
Dear Gemini, you also have eyes on you this month. Your financial dealings are deservedly private. Some big amount of money is at stake. You are keeping your cards close to your chest. Wait to take action after the 9th, if things are ready. You know what I mean. Wait longer if necessary.
Cancer:
The Big House/The Devil and the Eight of Sticks/Wands:
Dear Cancer, once again all attention is on your partner, not you. S/he is in full performance mode, and we hope doing good things. Just remember the meaning of the big house, prison, a place you and your partner do not want to be. Things are moving swiftly. Health issues are highlighted for you. If you are a health professional, so much to the good. If you are not, get immediate help for anything that comes up. Current conditions indicate fast moving ailments.
Leo:
The World Series/The World and the Four of Balls/Swords:
Dear Leo, follow medical advice for any health issue that you are experiencing, especially any instructions to get more rest. Your attention to details will give you freedom from suffering. Later in March an important relationship solidifies. This could be getting married, the birth of a second child, or a new business relationship. You are ready to take on this new responsibility but there will be an adjustment period.
Virgo:
The High Priestess and the Princess of Swords:
Dear Virgo, early in the month an old health issue may have come to your attention. If you follow the protocol that has worked before, you will be fine. Additionally from mid-February into the first part of March you have been out of sorts. The second half of March finds you focused on your partner, yet still not thinking as clearly as is your want. Take things step-by-step.
Libra:
Strength and the Six of Pentacles:
Dear Libra, it looks like there has been a slow-down in your social life. Maybe you have been thinking that your friends have deserted you. Actually they are busy and so are you. Your home and family, including elders, are the center of a lot of work and angst. You have some money issues to resolve connected with these. Things will go smoother after March 9th.
Scorpio:
The Ancestors/Death and the Three of Sticks/Wands:
Dear Scorpio, you are busy dealing with cash flow and a heavy work schedule. Some things are ending, possibly a long-term partnership, yet new things are beginning. Romance and relationships are very much on your mind. If you are in a committed relationship it may seem that your partner is changing right before your eyes. These changes will be permanent. Are you ready for them?
Sagittarius:
Whole New Ballgame/The Tower and the Nine of Bats/Wands:
Dear Sagittarius, are you feeling very popular these days? Your full bank account may be part of the reason. Managing money is work, work you need to attend to this month. A child may have a serious health issue that needs attending to as well. This could be physical or mental health. Remember back when you thought that if you just had enough money everything would be easy? Now you are discovering that having the money is also work.
Capricorn:
The Hierophant and the Five of Cups:
Dear Capricorn, it looks like romance, children, and creativity are on your mind. If you are looking for romance some excellent opportunities are at hand, though these may not evolve into long-term relationships. Beware any romantic promises from a new lover. Creatively, you are full of enthusiasm (as much as a Capricorn can be enthusiastic). Whatever you are working on may end up being a short term phase. Finally, be prepared to council children on their friendships and romantic lives—all is not roses for them at this time.
Aquarius:
The High Priestess and the Queen of Pentacles:
Dear Aquarius, tune in to your intuition. A lot is happening behind the scenes and inside your unconscious mind. Big changes are coming, but they are not yet here. As always, your friends are a bastion of good company and good advice.
Pisces:
John Horse/The Emperor and the Ten of Sticks/Wands:
Dear Pisces, you are worn out with your work with groups and associations. Your friends are wearing you out. Your bank account is weary, too. Normally pretty easy-going and accommodating, these traits have gotten you into this mess. It is time to take on the strength of the Emperor and say no while setting appropriate boundaries. Yes, there are people who will walk all over you. Tap into your inner Emperor and stop this.
You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you. If you get bored seeing my favorites, I’m open to suggestions and gifts.
