August TarotScopes
By Lalia Wilson
Welcome August! Thankfully, Mercury is no longer retrograde and the planets in the fire signs are giving Grand Trines which result in positive forward-moving influences all month.
All cards were randomized before these drawings with four decks being used. Three cards were repeated: The Hermit, The Seven of Pentacles, and the Queen of Wands. When I see repeated cards, I consider them as a collective reading for all of us. The Hermit shows us a solitary path to wisdom. It suggests that we need some alone time to make up our own minds about our choices in life. The Seven of Pentacles suggests that we look over our upcoming plans and fix anything that went wrong in the preceding months. The Queen of Wands is glorious passion, our ally if we welcome her into our hearts.
The Fire signs are shown by The Golden Age of Hollywood Tarot (2013) created by Lorelei Douglas and available at https://goldenagehollywood.weebly.com/. The Earth signs are illustrated by Tori Hartman’s Chakra Wisdom Tarot (2019) with illustrations by Katarina Sokolova and published by Watkins Publishing. This deck is reviewed elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections. The Air signs are depicted by The Marchetti Tarot (2019) by Ciro Marchetti and available at https://www.ciromarchetti.com/new-tarot. The Water Signs are shown by the Mystical Cats Tarot (2014), by Lunaea Weatherstone, art by Mickie Mueller, and published by Llewellyn. I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, to emphasize a particular season or sign, and because some are my favorites. For August I particularly chose the Golden Age of Hollywood Tarot, and the Mystical Cats Tarot because both acting and felines are related to the sign Leo, which is where the Sun and other planets are traveling this month.
Aries:
The Patriarch (Emperor) and the Seven of Pentacles:
Dear Aries, your focus this month is on yourself and your career and public image. The career and public image stuff has been going on for over a year and will continue to be a focus. As long as you stay within the law, you will be fine. But let’s focus on you a bit. Maybe it is time for some new clothes or a new hairstyle. Maybe a complete makeover? You really aren’t the same person you were eight years ago, perhaps your looks should reflect this new you. The movie inspiration for the Patriarch is Yul Brynner in The King and I (1956). The movie inspiration for the Seven of Pentacles is Rosalind Russell in Mame (1958).
Taurus:
The Hermit and the Ten of Wands:
Dear Taurus, family is a focus this month, as is your creativity (all white canvases, white noise, white/blank page poetry?). Things look good for an unexpected bequest, or other money from heaven. If you are feeling a lack of fertility and creativity, dig deeply into that feeling so that you can move ahead. (You will need some alone time for that hard work.)
Gemini:
The Tower and the Queen of Wands:
Gemini, it looks like you are returning or “recovering” from a vacation that started in July. There was some shake up of your usual style of traveling. But you are now back in early August ready to return to “regular life.” The thing is, all that you experienced, including any vacation romance, enlarges you with new experience that is going to be helpful for the rest of your days. What did it all mean? How can you incorporate that passion and lesson in the rest of your life?
Cancer:
Stars and the Seven of Fire (Wands):
Dear Cancer, money is one focus of this month, your money and other’s. It looks like your personal income is rising significantly. You are also clued in to the unseen realm. Whether it is your intuition, divination, or mediumship, you are aware of your access to information sources others don’t have. Use the information wisely. It’s a great month to focus on your tarot studies.
Leo:
The Hermit and the Power (King) of Cups:
Dear Leo. You are filled with energy this month, but your actions are mostly solo and imaginary. You need some alone time. Your romantic impulses are highlighted, but may only be expressed in fiction or film. Pay some attention to your personal possessions and finances. The movie inspiration for The Hermit is the movie Shane (1953). The movie inspiration for the King of Cups is Rudolph Valentino in Son of The Sheik (1926).
Virgo:
Judgment and the Eight of Coins (Pentacles):
Dear Virgo, in tarot your month indicators suggest an accounting for your actions, and waiting for your reward. Astrologically, though, there is much more focus on gambling or speculative investments, with a long-term payoff. As long as you only put money that you don’t need right now into these higher risk investments you should be fine. Your intuition is right on point. The downside may be the loss of a romance, or a child’s heartbreak over a failed love relationship.
Libra:
The Sun and the Ace of Swords:
Dear Libra, being yourself and being social are the most important things this month. You are already a charmer, but this month go the extra mile and hit all the networking opportunities in front of you. While being out and about your brain is always at work. This month it is vitally important in the new ideas department. Give yourself lots of social stimulation so that your brain is busy.
Scorpio:
The Cat (Fool) and the Two of Sky (Swords):
Dear Scorpio, your life is changing without you being the actor. The month starts off with an important family contact, perhaps your mother or aunt has visited. Then your life partner, normally the most rock-stable person in the universe, has got some kind of new mission that is life-altering. Be open to new experience like the Fool and delay judgment like the Two of Swords.
Sagittarius:
The Moon and the Magic (Page) of Swords:
Dear Sagittarius, you have repeated the Moon card from last month. Notice this particular Moon, as it is probably not a space you want to be in. Some change in your neighborhood is finishing this month, creating new routines and new daily life. Your siblings and cousins are also a source of new action as well as new enjoyment. This is the month to be thankful for all of life’s small blessings. The movie inspiration for The Moon is these films: Universal’s The Wolfman (1941), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) and The Mummy (1932). The movie inspiration for the Page of Swords is Metropolis (1927).
Capricorn:
The Wheel of Fortune and the Princess of Coins (Page of Pentacles):
Dear Capricorn, Good fortune is on its way to you, but will be delayed until late this year or next year. Your intuition and psychic receptivity are highlighted this month. Be particularly attentive to any messages regarding finances or financial doings, as your intuition is spot on. While your fortune is on its way, time spent studying how to handle and invest money is time invested in your future.
Aquarius:
The World and the Seven of Coins (Pentacles):
Dear Aquarius, it seems like everyone is getting a heads up regarding their psychic powers this month—including you. Keep track of important messages you are getting from your dreams. Listen to all the intuitive messages you get every day. A home project, especially if it incorporates new technology, is a move forward.
Pisces:
The (High) Priestess and the Queen of Fire (Wands):
Dear Pisces, later in the month expect the spotlight to be on you. In the meantime, healthy habits, a good diet and regular exercise, plus moderation in all things, are positive ways to influence your life. They are necessary for your psycho-spiritual life. Without your health you are impotent in the world. Provide the healthy body so that you can be the passionate advocate of the spiritual that you want to be.
You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you. If you get bored seeing my favorites, I’m open to suggestions and gifts.
