March 2019

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Happy beginning of spring for the northern hemisphere. May the greening of life in our environment make our spirits happy.
All cards were randomized before these drawings, with four decks being used. There were two repeated cards, which in some ways indicate a collective reading for all of us. The repeated cards, two times for each, are The Magician and Strength. The Magician is a card of developing our psycho-spiritual powers and manifesting what we want. It is also the card corresponding to the planet Mercury which is retrograde in the sign Pisces for most of the month. Strength is about our self-discipline which allows us to prevail in our worlds, because we can focus and use our strengths wisely. Given the Magician, and Mercury retrograde, Strength brings to mind the Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
The Fire signs are shown by the Healing Light Tarot (2017), from Christopher Butler, published by Lo Scarabeo. The Earth signs are illustrated by The Druidcraft Tarot (2010) by Philip Carr-Gomm, Stephanie Carr-Gomm, and Will Worthington, published by Connections Book Publishing. The Air signs are depicted by the Celtic Tarot (2003) created by Giacinto Gaudenzi and Saverio Tenuta, and published by Lo Scarabeo. The Water Signs are the New Era Elements Tarot (2018), by Ellenore F. Pieper, Ph.D., and published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.
Mercury retrograde is a period of several weeks three times a year when routine matters seem to go wrong. Getting through Mercury retrograde without problems involves using this time to edit, file, go over inventories, and other items that are not new projects. Mercury retrograde is much like Murphy’s Law: what can go wrong will go wrong. Another strategy is to change your daily routine. If you normally go to work on this route, take another one for three weeks. It’s also a good time to finish old projects, reread books you love, or look at old videos. Mercury is retrograde from March 5th until the 28th.
Aries:
Temperance and the Ace of Cups:
Dear Aries, the short version is “go on a far journey and meet a new love,” but let’s dig deeper as many are not able to travel overseas and would be inconvenienced by a new love. Wanderlust has you in its grip as spring in the northern hemisphere begins. Any travel or dealings with foreigners or products from foreign lands will be positive for you. Temperance reminds us to take the middle road in life. Mercury retrograde will influence your dream life, matters behind the scenes, and your inner experience, any of these may be highlighted in ways that you cannot ignore.

Taurus:
Strength and the Two of Pentacles:
Dear Taurus, you may find yourself missing a loved one who has passed on. Your home is empty, so are you moving out or in? Either way the furnishing will take time. Business travel is highlighted. Perhaps you are away from home on a long assignment. Mercury retrograde will influence your friends, who will have lots of strange experiences, as well as any organizations to which you belong.

Gemini:
The Magician and the King of Swords:
Gemini, career and public image are your focus this month. Murphy’s Law applies to your career. Double check everything and still be prepared for changes. Your boss will be crazy, or let’s say in a reality-distortion zone. Keep good records and have duplicates of everything. Your natural flexibility will serve you well this month.

Cancer:
The Magician and the Five of Pentacles:
Dear Cancer, your partner is still a focus of your attention as has been the case for a while. Foreign travel, and foreign products look good for you, though you may be feeling strapped for funds. You may make a new friend who is different, very different from those you usually associate with. This friend will be in your life for some years. Mercury retrograde is hitting your long-distance travel sector. Triple check any arrangements.

Leo:
Emperor and the Five of Wands:
Dear Leo, it looks like legal matters are in your life this month. If you are taking legal matters to protect an estate, or attempting to claim from an estate, be meticulous in your methods. Joint finances are highlighted, highlighted because they need attention. Look over your accounts carefully to ensure that all is as it should be. You don’t usually like to look at details but this month it is important. Ask a professional, or a trusted friend who is not going to benefit from the account, to go over the matters with you. Beware fights over assets.

Virgo:
The Hanged Man and the Seven of Pentacles:
Dear Virgo, a sudden work-related travel opportunity comes up for you. You also have concerns for your partner who seems unstable or incompetent; it’s Mercury retrograde. Tell your partner to step back from decision-making for a few weeks. It is a temporary thing, not a long lasting concern, but if medical attention seems needed do so. There’s more “wait” this month than usual; be flexible.

Libra:
The Chariot and the Six of Swords:
Dear Libra, your ability to deal with people is better than ever this month. Your political instincts are on target. Your career and your boss are a concern this month. Transportation is highlighted, whether it is your personal vehicle, or if your job involves transportation. Finally your health is delicate during this Mercury retrograde, seek medical attention if needed. In addition job miscommunications will also be likely. Be very deliberate in your communications to fellow employees, your boss, and your customers.

Scorpio:
Death and the Ten of Cups:
Dear Scorpio, are you feeling a bit empty? You have plenty of social activities, possibly related to religious organizations and/or your children. If you have a lover or a creative project, this month will find you at sixes and sevens with the other. Your children also may hear different meanings than you thought you said. I see you as the director of a play with multiple actors, scene-changes, and big egos. This may just be a metaphor, but your creative side is a bit crazy this month.

Sagittarius:
Strength and the Three of Wands:
Sagittarius, you find yourself pulled towards a foreign adventure, but it does not look possible this month. Your home and family demand a lot of attention when you would rather be traveling. A check-up regarding your reproductive health is in order, especially if you are planning to start a family. You will get to move forward soon, but not this month.

Capricorn:
The Tower and the Eight of Cups:
Dear Capricorn, The two cards suggest endings or separations, yet astrologically this is more about realizing how important your partner and family are to you. Your unfortunate tendency is to put relationships on autopilot. But the people on the other side of the relationship probably need more attention, more time, and more wooing than that. If you want to keep things running smoothly in your life, you need to take the time and the energy to make your partner and family feel loved. Also, get all the regular service on your vehicles, and be flexible with transportation this month.

Aquarius:
The Star and the Ten of Wands:
Dear Aquarius, a couple of things look great this month. One is you feeling very positive about yourself, your life, and your style (a new spring wardrobe?). The other is your friends who are more social than usual and begging you to join them in fun activities. On the down side is a sibling or cousin’s lasting health problem, and a strong need to keep your hands on the purse strings and follow a tight budget this month.

Pisces:
The Hierophant and the Daughter (Page) of Water (Cups):
Dear Pisces, it looks like the neighbors are involved in construction projects, or is that road modifications near your dwelling? At any rate there is a lot of hustle and bustle in your neighborhood. You are feeling pretty good, eager to take on new projects, yet your judgment and communicating style will be less reliable than usual this month. Double check any big decisions and clarify anything that could be misinterpreted. Female children are a source of joy.

You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you. If you get bored seeing my favorites, I’m open to suggestions and gifts.
