June 2017
By Lalia Wilson
June is the halfway mark of the year—the sixth month. We have the Cancer (Summer in the northern hemisphere) Solstice, Father’s Day and Flag Day (in the U.S.A.). Father’s Day always has the Sun, symbol of the father, in Gemini. However Saturn is also a significator of the father, and Saturn is in Sagittarius. I’ll give suggestions for Father’s Day presents determined by your sign, not Dad’s. Use these themes to buy presents for your father, and any other friends or relatives who are fathers or expectant fathers. Flag Day, should you choose to observe it, has the Moon in the futuristic sign of Aquarius, perhaps you can do a light display with some of the new LED lights in red, white and blue.
What does June have in store for you?
I used a different deck of cards for each of the four elements. All cards were randomized. There were three repeated cards: The Lovers, the Five of Pentacles and the Seven of Swords. The Lovers card is usually seen as a positive one and is associated with the sign Gemini, the sign the Sun transits most of June. Relationships and weddings are going to be on people's minds more than usual. The Five of Pentacles is one of hardship and poverty in the physical realm. The Seven of Swords can indicate deceit or chicanery. Together they suggest being careful with your valuables, thinking twice before investing, and being careful with a new romantic partner who may not be as perfect as he or she seems.
This month’s numerology of the cards has zero Threes and zero Kings if you consider 14 separately from 5. Threes are cards of smaller abundances, joy, fertility, and good feelings. Their absence could be because of so much joy that no one needs to work at it, or because of serious matters that take our hearts away from joy. Let us hope for the first reason. The absence of Kings is troubling, as Kings are leaders—the adults and responsible parties. What happens when no one is willing to be an adult?

Aries:
The Lovers and the Nine of Wands:
It looks like a busy month for you, dear Aries, with lots of excursions and short trips, as well as lots of communications. A legal authority may be blocking you in some way. If it’s complicated, get good advice. Be smart. Avoid public displays of contempt for the law. Good parts of your life this month are your creative endeavors and your children. You are full of creative impulse this month, so make the most of it. A fun gift for Dad would be a book or magazine subscription pertaining to one of his many varied interests. A more serious gift would be something thoughtful about world religions and philosophy—a book, or a trip, or a class.

Taurus:
Bindweed (The Devil) and the Five of Wands:
This month far-away places and events will affect your life. What's going on in the world, far away from you and your everyday life, will have a permanent effect. Short-term this may not be fun, though eventually, you will see that the changes were for the better. Oh, Taurus, you so hate changes! In addition, you may become aware of fighting going on behind your back. Could it be because you have taken on some stewardship for other’s financial affairs? On the plus side, caring for your home and family will bring peace. Try to take some time every day for this. A fun gift for Dad would be matching fishing poles or other sports equipment in which you share an interest. A more serious gift would be to set up a living trust for his estate so that the family need not worry about financial outcomes if he becomes incapacitated.

Gemini:
The Chariot and the Six of Wands:
Dear Gemini, your energy this month is focused on generating income, as well as protecting, maintaining and augmenting possessions. A female sibling, cousin or neighbor is doing good deeds for you this month. Your partner is an Eeyore this month. Look to your friends for fun and sympathy. Give Dad a portrait of the two of you. A more serious gift is something nice from far away that has spiritual significance to him.

Cancer:
Strength and the Magic (Page) of Wands:
Time to pay attention to your money and possessions, dear Cancer? You will benefit by doing so. Check your bank and brokerage statements as well as your retirement accounts. Do you have valuables such as jewelry insured? Get enough sleep as you are receiving valuable information in your dreams—even if you don't remember them. You have some health issues, so be kind to your liver. Your career and public life are flying out of control, we hope in a good way. If you need publicity, now is the time. Dad wants some quiet time, whatever that means to him. He also needs some coaxing to take care of his health.

Leo:
Initiation (The Fool) and the Five of Pentacles (called the Five of Earth in this deck and subtitled “Loneliness.”):
There is a religious or spiritual message trying to get through to you, dear Leo. Your public image shines, especially anything to do with young women, beauty, fashion, love, or money—Venus, Venus, Venus! Your workplace has been a place of transition for several years as systems and protocols are changing and workers are being let go. Is there a lesson for you, Leo? If your work is Venusian, related to beauty, luxury products, money or young women, there is a way to keep working and find success. Otherwise, look for a Venus angle to your work. A fun gift for Dad would be a party or social event in which he is honored. A more serious gift would be you dedicating a composition or book to him, or commissioning a portrait of him.

Virgo:
Death and the Five of Pentacles:
Virgo, you have an emptiness where a sibling, cousin or neighbor used to be part of your life. It’s as if you are missing a part of yourself. Sharing your feelings, even if only with your journal, will help. Your children are changing in ways that cannot be undone. It seems like they are no longer the same people. The bright spot this month is a long trip, whether work or a vacation. This brings peace, money, beauty and love. A fun gift for Dad would be mentioning his name on the morning talk show he listens to or putting his name in a personal ad in the paper he reads. A more serious gift would be a new treadmill or elliptical machine for his home gym.

Libra:
The Moon and the Eight of Pentacles:
You have had some subtle health issues going on for a while, dear Libra. This month you may finally seek assistance from a healthcare provider. Astrology suggests the issues could have to do with sensitivities to environmental chemicals or allergies, or both. Home renovation is a theme this month. Perhaps making your home environment less allergy prone will help—things like minimizing carpeting, or having window treatments that are washable. You also may have a financial windfall this month. Dad would like a philosophical book or a trip abroad. More seriously, perhaps you can help him connect with his remaining siblings and cousins.

Scorpio:
The Lovers and the Ten of Wands:
You know what they say about Scorpio, don’t you? It’s the sexy sign! You will be living up to that reputation this month. You are going to be keeping the sheets warm by night and working hard during the day. This could bring on some minor health issues from burning the candle at both ends. You, however, are unlikely to give up an active sex life for anything. Moderation is not in your vocabulary this month. Unfortunately, budgeting is in your vocabulary. A bit of temperance now will bring rewards down the road. Dad would like some mutual fund shares or stock certificates, but mostly he wants you to be financially successful on your own. How can you honor him and demonstrate financial competence?

Sagittarius:
The Sun and the Seven of Swords:
Your partner is naturally a light-hearted flirt. You are always the heavy, or at least you have been for the last two years. This is wearing on your partner. How can you honor your concerns for frugality and so forth (very untypical of Sag) with pursuing love? Lighten up! Yet, that Seven of Swords is indicating deceptive tactics from important people in your life, whether siblings, cousins, friends, neighbors, or your romantic partner. Remember that you lose by being too severe or too presumptuous. A supportive female in your life is a big help this month. Your rich friends are having lots of parties and you are a party animal. A fun gift for Dad is a short weekend trip to a nearby fun place. A more serious gift would be you completing your degree.

Capricorn:
Priestess (High Priestess) and the Ace of Air (Swords):
You have some new technology that is making you have fun and be more productive while demanding that you learn how to use it. If you are female or have a female helping you with the new tech, this will be easier. Your public image is fine, more than fine. No vacation this month for you, dear Capricorn, either work or health issues are keeping you close to home base. A fun gift for Dad is something for his health. Maybe you can do something health-related together? An exercise class? A diet? A new sport? A more serious gift for Dad is solving some of the family mysteries through genealogy.

Aquarius:
The World and the Seven of Swords:
A serious older friend is on your mind this month, dear Aquarius. Other than that, the month looks positive. You will be more popular than usual, witty and fun. You will enjoy socializing, entertainments, children and lovers. A trip to a distant local for research or learning will be fun, too. Dad would like some fun time together, perhaps a trip to the theater. He'd also like to attend some of your social events.

Pisces:
Liberty (Justice) and the Glory (Queen) of Swords:
Dear Pisces, this month may bring a windfall or inheritance. I’m hearing “lucky cat,” whatever that symbolizes. Money is more likely to come near the end of the month. Things with your home and family look very positive. You, however, are a bit dreamy and lost in space. Remember, being around water, especially moving water such as a creek, river, or the ocean, serves to “ground” the water signs—that would be you, Pisces. Take some time to enjoy the water and let go of the moodiness. Dad wants something for the home, maybe a bookcase or a reading lamp? He also wants you to be successful. How can you make him proud this month?

You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low-cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your emotions and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you.
