December TarotScopes
By Lalia Wilson
Welcome Winter Holidays and December!
All cards were randomized before these drawings with four decks being used. Five cards were repeated this month, the High Priestess, the Devil, the World, the Ace of Cups and the Seven of Cups. If we look at these five cards as indicators of a collective reading, it might be, “Be careful with your choices, be self-disciplined and avoid over-indulgence to make the most of this time of many tempting opportunities.”
The Fire signs are depicted by The Modern Witch Tarot (2019) created by Lisa Sterle and Published by Sterling Ethos. (This deck is review elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections.) The Earth signs are shown by the Crystal Visions Tarot (2011) created by Jennifer Galasso, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. The Air signs are represented using the Radiant Rider Waite Tarot (2003) based on drawings by Pamela Coleman Smith and published by U.S. Games, Inc. The Radiant Rider Waite deck is one of my go-to decks that is useful for practically any question or client. If you only have one deck, this would be the one to have. Water Signs are shown by the Winter Waite Tarot, a creation of Christine Aguiar and James Battersby, available at https://www.tarotcollectibles.com/store. (Note that these creators have another Winter themed RWS deck, plus two other original winter themed tarot decks and a winter themed Lenormand deck!)
I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, to emphasize a particular season or sign, and because some are my favorites.
Aries:
The Devil and the Six of Pentacles:
Dear Aries, while most of the world and your circle of friends are partying, you have big work responsibilities. Have you volunteered to handle business while others are away? Your career profile is very high. This coming year shows increased public recognition and more responsibility. There are also indications of income ups and downs. Are you launching an independent business of your own? Needless to say, with the Devil and the Six of Pentacles, you are cautioned against too much hedonism, as well as to make astute charitable contributions within your budget!
Taurus:
Justice and the Seven of Swords:
Dear Taurus, your fears concerning health issues, money, and job security, are way too extreme. Your December will be uneventful as long as you observe care with any legal matters (stay on the right side of the law), keep your eyes on your goals (there will be plenty of distractions), and seek medical care if something is off about your health. Healthwise, you are more prone to creating your own problems by overindulging in everything but exercise, where you under-indulge. Justice means balancing the scale. Time to up the exercise and lower the consumption of food and drink. Water is okay.
Gemini:
The Devil and the Ten of Wands:
As a Gemini, you tend to ignore your body and its health. It looks like you have overdone it and need a good rest over the holiday season. You feel strongly called to be superman/woman and hit every party and event of the season. That is not a good strategy this year—you really need some time off. Take time every day to rest from the hard work you have been doing. At the same time, fulfill your duties towards financial management for your family, and any estates you are settling.
Cancer:
The High Priestess and the Three of Pentacles:
Dear Cancer, your holiday season is going to be determined by your significant other who has a high profile and many obligations at this time. You, meanwhile, are seeking a simpler, quieter, and more traditional holiday. Your new and delightful friends are liable to encourage you exceed your holiday spending budget. Only you can determine what’s right for you.
Leo:
The Magician and the Ace of Cups:
Dear Leo, well what could go wrong with party central at your house? You are full of your own magic, intellectually at the top of your game, and attracting lots of attention from potential mates. Love is in the air. However, you are in a long-term period of needing to pay attention to your health. Keep a reasonable schedule and seek medical advice if anything is not right.
Virgo:
The World and the Ace of Cups:
Dear Virgo, tradition is your holiday bliss. You want to see all the holiday décor, watch the holiday movies, see your local production of the Nutcracker, and get your house ready for entertaining. On top of that, love is in the air. All that you have rightfully earned is there for you this December. Enjoy!
Libra:
Judgment and the Seven of Cups:
Dear Libra, It looks like your home is all dolled up for the holiday season. This has involved a lot of work by you and perhaps some expensive assistance to design and decorate to create the full effect you uncharacteristically seek this year. (Libras rarely go overboard with interior design and decorating, as they are exemplars of culture and good taste.) Pace yourself this month, so that you are as fit and able to participate in New Year’s Eve as you were at the beginning of December.
Scorpio:
The World and the Seven of Cups:
Dear Scorpio, you are full of energy this month. You are recognized for your accomplishments this year. You have a bunch of responsibilities towards siblings, cousins, and neighbors. What have you gotten yourself in to? Do what you have obligated yourself to do. One caution, this month brings many amusements, far too many for you to fully enjoy them all. Be prudent in your choices.
Sagittarius:
The High Priestess and the Queen of Pentacles:
Dear Sagittarius, this is a magical month for you. Your thoughts are on the reason for the season, as you are naturally inclined to be religious and philosophical. Travel opportunities abound. Your vitality is strong. Your finances are abundant. Remember to take some time for quiet contemplation, as there is some magic available if you do so.
Capricorn:
Strength and the Page of Swords:
Dear Capricorn, you will be in the center of all events it seems. You’ve been working hard, and will continue to do so for some time to come. Your increasing understanding of public life is on target, follow your own advice. Emotional connections and powerful sexual connections are there for you, if you wish to explore them.
Aquarius:
The Tower and the Eight of Swords:
Dear Aquarius, events in early December may favor a change of job or residence. You could relocate this month, or in the near future. Before making any permanent decisions, be sure that you have not created a problem for yourself. Something is less difficult than it seems. You are aided in any decisions by a female friend who may be a counselor, professor or cleric.
Pisces:
The Fool and the Ace of Swords:
Dear Pisces, expect a sudden opportunity to travel this month. A change in your finances may require an expert such as an attorney or financial advisor. A female will be of help in these matters. Your intuition is on target. Remain open to new experiences (like the fool) to best enjoy the holidays.
You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.
The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you. If you get bored seeing my favorites, I’m open to suggestions and gifts.
